Sourdough
Making your own sourdough is a wonderful and fulfilling process. The ingredients are simple. The process is simple. The end result is magical (and your friends will love you).
So why should you listen to a professional engineer and amateur photographer on how to make sourdough bread? Yeah, you probably shouldn't. Feel free to bail to YouTube before you get in too deep.
To be serious, I didn't start making bread with the intention of sharing my starter with dozens of friends and neighbors or creating a website to help document my process. I originally started when my partner began to realize that he was having issues with eating bread. He confirmed that he didn't have celiac but yet after eating bread he had numerous adverse side effects. The idea to try and make bread at home came after taking a trip to Argentina where he was able to eat the local breads without issue. As one does these days we took to the internet to help self diagnose his condition. What we found was worth testing. We found that the cause of his reaction may not be the gluten but may be the additives or chemicals that are put on the wheat. The solution was simple; try making bread with organic, non-GMO flour, so that's what I did.
Sourdough has other reported benefits that I won't go into but adding those to the potential benefits of organic, non-GMO flour made it the logical starting point. Long story short we found success with the organic, non-GMO flour. The success was not limited to just the sourdough. The benefits extended to any of the breads I made.
I've created this site to help anyone and everyone who wants to, make wonderful sourdough from their own kitchen. With a few tools and in a short period of time hopefully you too can be making your own sourdough.
There are two main components to my site:
Starter - This is the life of your starter. Begin here.
Recipe - Here is my adaptation of a fairly traditional sourdough recipe.
Addition info is on this site:
Tools and Tips - Starter and Sourdough can be very simple but certain accessories make for a very professional product.
I tell everyone else that each step does not take long but the entire process takes long. Basically, you need to start the full process 2 days before you want the loaf of bread.
